About Dr. Love

Welcome to my website! My goal for this space is to give you the information you might need in making decisions about your emotional health and treatment, and about my style as a therapist.

With over 30 years of experience, my primary motivating factor has been my deep-seated passion in walking with people along their life path, helping them to leave behind old negative patterns, face their emotions more authentically, and make positive changes in their life that move them forward to a more peaceful existence.

I respect my clients deeply, as I feel it takes great courage to decide to face your problems and fears, and to reach out for help. My therapeutic style is based on intuition and adaptation, allowing space for following trails that often lead to good insights. It is important for me to hear my clients' stories and to understand the context of the difficulties they face.

Training & Background

I received my Ph.D. in 1994 and was licensed in Michigan in 1996. I work primarily with adults who have concerns regarding depression, anxiety, life transition & adjustments, caregiving, and chronic illness and grief.

My training was in evidence-based cognitive/behavioral therapy, and although this type of therapy is the basis of my approach, I have come to appreciate other traditions within the field. This has yielded positive results as my methods are able to adapt based on the unique scenarios my clients experience.

Telehealth

As with most things, there are pros and cons with Telehealth. Although I always enjoyed meeting with my clients in person pre-pandemic, since then I have grown to like the convenience that video sessions offer for myself and my clients. I find that a personal feeling of connection is still there, and my clients don't need to schedule extra time for a commute to an office.

This capability has also been very helpful for my clients with limited mobility or chronic illness. Requirements for telehealth include having a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a built-in camera, decent Wi-Fi, and privacy in your home.

Payment & Insurance

As a Michigan licensed Ph.D. psychologist, I am able to accept most insurance plans. At times over the years, I have stopped working with certain plans due to a history of mistakes, inconsistent payment, etc. If I do not accept your plan, please inquire about my rate for private pay clients.

How to get started: Call or text me to let me know a bit about you and what has caused you to reach out, and what you are looking for in therapy. Ask any questions you have about insurance. If I feel that my style or skills are not the best fit for your concerns, I will do my best to provide solid referrals to practices or therapists that are well-established and have good reputations.

Services

I offer a range of services tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. All services are available via secure telehealth video sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of concerns do you work with?

I work primarily with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, life transitions, adjustment challenges, caregiver stress, chronic illness, and grief. If you're unsure whether your concern is a good fit, feel free to reach out — I'm happy to talk it through.

Do you offer telehealth sessions?

Yes. I offer secure video sessions and have found them to be just as effective and connected as in-person meetings. You'll need a device with a camera, reliable Wi-Fi, and a private space. No special software is required beyond what I'll share with you at scheduling.

Do you accept insurance?

As a Michigan licensed Ph.D. psychologist, I accept most insurance plans. There are a small number of plans I no longer work with due to administrative issues. If I don't accept your plan, I can provide my private-pay rate. Feel free to ask about this when you reach out.

What is your therapeutic approach?

My foundation is evidence-based cognitive/behavioral therapy (CBT), but I draw from multiple traditions and adapt my approach to each client's unique situation. I place great importance on truly hearing your story and understanding the full context of the challenges you're facing.

What if your practice isn't the right fit for me?

If I feel that my skills or style aren't the best match for what you need, I will do my best to provide solid referrals to well-established practices and therapists with good reputations. Finding the right fit matters, and I want to help you get there.

How do I get started?

Simply call or text me. Tell me a bit about yourself, what brought you to reach out, and what you're looking for in therapy. We can also address any insurance questions at that time. I look forward to hearing from you.
